THE COMET SYSTEM DOES NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE!
Information contained in the COMET system, such as text, images, animations, and sounds are for educational purposes only. COMET is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and should never be used as such. Always ask your physician or primary care provider any questions you may have regarding your medical condition. Never wait to get professional medical advice or disregard it because of something you have read on COMET.
If you think you may have a medical problem or emergency, call your doctor or 911 right away. COMET does not specifically recommend any of the tests, procedures, medications, or other treatment opinions mentioned in the system. COMET does not recommend that you rely on this system without additional professional medical advice, and if you do it will be at your own risk.
While COMET makes every effort to ensure all information provided through the system is accurate, reliable, complete, and up-to-date, it cannot be guaranteed due to constant changes in the practice and research of medicine. Therefore COMET cannot guarantee its information is entirely accurate, and cannot be held liable for any inaccuracies.
COMET understands that your health information is personal, and it is important for you to keep it private. COMET therefore has a number of safeguards to ensure your privacy.
The COMET system uses physical, electronic, and procedural measures to protect and secure your personal information from unauthorized access. Only authorized COMET employees are permitted to access personal information, and they only may do so for permitted and necessary functions.
Some of the data from COMET usage will be collected to measure its effectiveness and the frequency of its use. This will be done only by authorized COMET personnel. The data will be analyzed anonymously to determine effectiveness. We will be reviewing your medical records in order to confirm your medications, lab values, and appointments. No one other than authorized COMET staff will be able to see your own personal data unless you choose to share it with them. At no time will another CORE Center client be able to see your own personal data through the COMET system.
COMET is funded principally through a grant from the United States Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Minority Health. A small supplemental educational grant has also been provided by the Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company.
