Overview
Diabetes is a very serious health condition that can even be fatal if it is not treated promptly and properly. When you have diabetes, your body is not able to make the proper use of the sugars in the foods you eat. This means that too much sugar remains in your blood, and not enough gets into all your different cells, where it is used for energy.
Symptoms of diabetes can include hunger, thirst, excessive urination, dehydration, and weight loss. Diabetes that is not treated can lead to serious medical problems such as: heart disease, stroke, neuropathy (nerve damage), poor circulation that can result in loss of limbs, trouble hearing, eye problems, and death.
