COMET (the Community and Minority Education and Training Initiative) is a comprehensive computer-based health education tool now available on the Internet. COMET provides simple and easy to read health information on many topics. The purpose of COMET is to improve consumer’s knowledge of various diseases and empower consumers to better self-manage their own health through the use of computers and the Internet.
COMET has a general knowledge section where anyone can learn about the body and various diseases through illustrations and short animations, find medication information, learn how to prevent diseases and check one’s risk for certain conditions. COMET was designed in 2000 by the CORE Foundation and funded by the Office of Minority Health. COMET began as a health education and information tool for consumers at the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center in Chicago, IL.
